Aw jeez, Rick, It's Morty.

This grim and commanding miniature; brought into physical form by the masterful craftsmanship of 3DArtGuy, is inspired by the relentless horror and tragic grandeur of Mortarion, Primarch of the XIV Legion Astartes: the Dusk Raiders.

Where other Primarchs reveled in speed or glory, Mortarion mastered endurance. He was forged in poison and shadow, raised beneath the choking fogs of Barbarus, where cruel overlords ruled from the mountaintops and humanity survived only through suffering. Mortarion did not conquer through brilliance or charisma, he conquered by outlasting despair itself.

He was the Reaper before he ever carried a scythe.

To Mortarion, war was not heroism, it was inevitability. He believed in resilience, in bearing the unendurable so others would not have to. His Legion reflected this ethos perfectly: stoic, unyielding warriors who advanced through chemical fire, viral weapons, and radiation storms without complaint. The Dusk Raiders did not break. They endured.

But endurance, too, has limits.

Mortarion’s greatest hatred was tyranny, yet fate would trap him in a far crueler form of it. Betrayed by circumstance and abandoned to an eternity of suffering during the Warp-plague that consumed his Legion, Mortarion made a final, catastrophic choice. To save his sons from endless agony, he submitted, not out of devotion, but out of grim necessity.

Papa Nurgle did not grant mercy.
He weaponised suffering.

Mortarion emerged reborn as the Death Lord, Daemon Primarch of Nurgle, a towering angel of rot and entropy whose very presence corrodes reality. His once-noble endurance became eternal decay. His Legion, now Plague Marines, march as walking pandemics,  bloated, rusted, and horrifyingly immortal.

Mortarion did not fall to Chaos because he was weak.
He fell because he loved his sons enough to damn himself.

In the Horus Heresy, Mortarion stands as the Imperium’s darkest irony,  a liberator who became a tyrant, a hater of sorcery who became a Warp-spawned demigod, and a champion of endurance cursed with everlasting life. His scythe, Silence, reaps not just flesh, but hope.

Now, the renamed Death Guard advance beneath clouds of contagion, their Primarch hovering above the battlefield on corpse-wings, spreading plagues that no armour, faith, or medicine can stop.

Their creed is as merciless as their master:

“All things decay.”

Mortarion: the Pale King, the Lord of Decay, the Imperium’s most enduring tragedy.

"wheeeeeeze!, burp! fart!"

also Mortarion. Probably.
