Ariel is the iconic red-haired mermaid princess and the beloved protagonist of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, one of the most popular and enduring characters in Disney Princess history. First appearing in Disney’s 1989 animated classic, Ariel is known for her adventurous spirit, curiosity about the human world, and powerful singing voice, with her signature song “Part of Your World” captivating generations of fans.

Ariel is the youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. Unlike her older sisters, Ariel is fascinated by the surface world and collects human artifacts in her secret grotto. Her best friends include Flounder, a loyal tropical fish, and Sebastian, a Caribbean crab and royal court composer. Ariel’s yearning for freedom and love leads her to make a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula, exchanging her voice for human legs so she can pursue her true love, Prince Eric.

The Little Mermaid’s story is one of transformation, sacrifice, and self-discovery. Ariel’s deal with Ursula places her and her entire kingdom in danger, but her courage and determination ultimately lead to triumph, breaking Ursula’s spell and uniting her world with Eric’s.
