Gwen Stacy, known as Spider-Gwen or Ghost-Spider, is one of Marvel Comics’ most popular modern superheroes and a fan-favorite addition to the Spider-Verse. Introduced in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (2014), Spider-Gwen quickly became a breakout star thanks to her striking design, fresh origin story, and complex emotional depth.

In the Earth-65 universe, Gwen Stacy is the one bitten by the radioactive spider, not Peter Parker. She gains classic spider-powers—superhuman strength, agility, wall-crawling, and spider-sense—and fights crime as the masked vigilante Spider-Woman, often nicknamed Spider-Gwen by fans. Her iconic white, black, and pink costume with a hooded mask set her apart visually from other spider-heroes, making her one of the most cosplayed and recognized designs in Marvel fandom.

Gwen’s story is marked by tragedy and responsibility. Her best friend, Peter Parker, becomes the Lizard in an attempt to be special like Gwen and tragically dies in her arms, leading the public to blame Spider-Woman for his death. Haunted by this guilt, Gwen fights to protect New York City while balancing her life as a rebellious drummer and her strained relationship with her police captain father, George Stacy, who vows to bring Spider-Woman to justice.

Spider-Gwen is a central figure in Spider-Verse events, teaming up with other spider-heroes like Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Miles Morales, Silk (Cindy Moon), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) to battle threats like the Inheritors. Her popularity has led to multiple ongoing solo comic series, where she often uses the codename Ghost-Spider to distinguish herself.

Beyond comics, Spider-Gwen gained massive mainstream appeal through the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse animated films, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. These movies showcase Gwen as a skilled, confident hero with emotional complexity, further solidifying her status as one of Marvel’s leading female superheroes and an essential part of the Spider-Verse franchise.
